Volleyball Rebounds with 3-1 Win at UMD

DEARBORN, MI - After falling Friday night, UNOH volleyball snapped back on Saturday to snag a 3-1 win on the road at UM-Dearborn for the first time since 2019.

The Racers never led in the first game of the day and saw the Wolverines run out to a 25-19 win. After going down 2-0 to start game two, UNOH rattled off seven straight to go up 7-2 and didn't trail again winning 25-19. Momentum swung back and fourth in set three before UM-Dearborn earned a set point at 24-23. After a timeout, the Racers answered with back-to-back points to earn their own set point but UMD responded to tie things at 25. The last two points belonged to UNOH as they finished off the game 27-25 to go up 2-1 in the match.

It looked like the Wolverines might force a fifth set after jumping out to a 6-1 lead and holding that cushion late into the game, 23-20. Once more, the Racers were clinical when it mattered most scoring the final five points of the day that included three kills and a service ace to win 25-23 in the set and 3-1 in the match.

Gianna San Filippo led the team for the third time in four matches finishing with 14 kills and just two errors on 31 attacks (.387). San Filippo also added twelve block assists, matching her season best, and a service ace for 21 points in the match, her fifth 20+ point performance this season. Shamyria Dubose finished with a season high 13 kills with five block assists for 15.5 points while Abigial Martin added 13 kills of her own with ten digs for her fourth double-double of the season.

Savanna Reed led the team with 25 assists adding seven digs with Madelyn Hampton logging 22 and nine. Defensively, Bailey Gregory finished with 26 digs for her third straight 20+ outing and ninth of the season.

As a team, UNOH hit .255 in the game, the program's second best WHAC performance in the Kreiner Era (Sep. 13, 2023 vs Lourdes - .264). The Racers also racked up 26 block assists for their third straight 20+ match.

The Racers will return to The Garage for a five-game home stretch that begins with Lourdes Wednesday, September 25 at 7:00 PM.
