Eagles Earn Split in Day One in Alabama

The Texas A&M University-Texarkana Eagles volleyball team earned a split in today's action at the Faulkner Invitational volleyball tournament in Montgomery, Alabama. The Eagles lost a close first match to St. Thomas 25-22, 25-22, 25-23 before bouncing back to defeat host team Faulkner University 25-15, 25-22, 25-15. Match one was the season opener for the Eagles, who were taking on a St. Thomas team that was playing its 6^th game of the season.

Despite the opening loss, head coach Madeleine Halford was pleased with the team's effort. "With today being our first showing, playing against good teams that already have 4 to 5 matches under their belts this season, I'm impressed with our competitiveness and camaraderie."

Echoing her preseason comments, Halford commented on how well the team is coming together early in the season. "I'm excited to see how far this team will go," said Halford. "We already have great chemistry, and our effort is unmatched."

Ja'Kerra Holt and Mia Mata led the Eagles in game one with 13 points and 8.5 points respectively. Holt recorded 10 kills in the loss while Mata recorded 8. Kaitlyn Cabral led the Eagles in game two with 12 kills and 14 points.

The Eagles are back in action Saturday as they close out tournament play against Keiser University at 9:00 a.m. and Reinhardt University at 1:00 p.m. Both games will be streamed at https://www.youtube.com/@FaulknerSportsNetwork.
