Men's Basketball Drops Road Contest to Midway
MIDWAY, Ky. – The Brescia University men's basketball team took the road loss to the Eagles of Midway to drop their fourth conference loss of the season. The 91-81 loss extended the Bearcat's record to 5-10 overall and 3-4 in RSC play.
An in-state battle between these cross-division teams started with the Eagles drawing first blood with a layup. A Damian Garcia three would knot the score following Eagle free-throw attempts. With the four-point lead, Garcia drove the ball where he was fouled under the basket to head to the line for two shots. Back-to-back layups gave the Bearcats a five-point advantage with 10 minutes to play in the half. A few Bearcat turnovers led to Eagle baskets as Midway held a five-point lead.
Coming out of the half, BU struggled to boxout on the free throw attempt leading to another set of shots for the Eagles. Mike Caswell broke the 8-0 run for Midway with his jump shot on the elbow. Garcia started to amp up as he scored the Bearcat's next seven points to get BU within three of the lead. Despite getting within one of the lead, BU had to foul the Eagles to regain possession as Midway takes this win by ten.
Damian Garcia led all scorers with 33 points while adding six boards, three assists, three steals, and a block. Gonzalo Luque added 17 off the bench for the Bearcats.
The Bearcats will continue the road trip as they head to IU East to take on the Red Wolves this Saturday at 12pm CT.
