Hastings Sweeps Central Christian 3-0
(Hastings, Nebraska) - The Hastings Broncos continued their success in their home classic, taking care of business in a 3-0 dominant win against Central Christian College (25-12, 25-15, 25-13).
Hastings never trailed in the first set as they attacked relentlessly, having six players with at least one kill in the 25-12 set win. In what was the teams' largest margin of victory since the opening set of the season against Oklahoma City, they totaled 12 kills on nine assists. Junior Alexis Pontine had six of those assists and senior Miriam Miller had five digs.
Central Christian hung tough at the beginning of the second set, with Hastings only leading 9-8 at one point. From there, however, it was all Hastings in the second period as they won the set 25-15, including the last points in a row. Senior Majesta Valasek had four kills in the period and freshman Malena Onespot Danforth shined with seven assists in the set.
The Broncos grabbed a huge 19-3 lead in the third set that included 11 straight points for Hastings. Central Christian would make a run, but Hastings used their great start to put them away to win the third set, 25-13.
Hastings finished the game with almost twice as many kills, 34-18, and a hitting percentage of .316, with only nine attack errors. Freshman Londyn Carnes led the team in kills with six, Onespot Danforth had 10 assists, and Miller had 11 digs.
Up next, Hastings will return to the court on Saturday, August 23 against Kansas Wesleyan at 10am in Lynn Farrell Arena in their second-to-last match of their 2024 Hastings Classic event.
