Cougars Fall to Foresters in League Opener

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The University of Saint Francis (Ind.) volleyball team opened Crossroads League play against Huntington University on Wednesday, September 4. The Foresters took Wednesday night's match by a final score of 3-0, with set scores of 25-19, 25-22, 25-20.

After the Foresters took set one, the Cougars answered, taking a 16-12 lead in the second set thanks to a kill by Paige Fortkamp. After a back-and-forth battle, Huntington fought back to tie the score 21-21 before going on to win set two by a set score of 25-22.

The third set followed suit, with the Cougars and Foresters trading points and tying the score at 11 apiece. Huntington was able to pull ahead to win the third set and take the match. 

Paige Fortkamp led the Cougars with 16 kills and a .314 attacking percentage. The senior outside hitter also had 12 digs and three aces on Wednesday night. Alexa Sparks had a team-high 18 assists, while Hannah Sweeney led in digs with 18.

Up next, USF volleyball (7-6, 0-1) will host Marian University for a conference matchup on Saturday, September 7. Game time is set for 4:00 p.m. at the Hutzell Athletic Center.
