LSUS Women’s Soccer Set to Face LSUA in RRAC Tournament Semifinal Showdown

SHREVEPORT, La. -- The Louisiana State University Shreveport (LSUS) women's soccer team is gearing up to face Louisiana State University Alexandria (LSUA) in the Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) Women's Soccer Tournament Semifinal on Tuesday at 11 a.m. in Texarkana, Texas. The Pilots head into the match riding high after a hard-fought quarterfinal victory over Texas A&M-San Antonio, securing the win 5-4 in penalty kicks following a double-overtime thriller that ended in a 2-2 draw.

LSUS earned the RRAC Regular Season Champion title with an impressive 12-1 conference record, fueled by a high-powered offense led by Juliana Anchondo, Diana Godines, and Dawniella Torres. The trio has combined for an astounding 47 goals this season. Anchondo, who leads the team with 40 points, has been an offensive force all year, with Godines close behind at 37 points and Torres at 33. Anchondo's goal-scoring prowess has put her among the league leaders, while Godines and Torres have netted 16 and 13 goals, respectively. The Pilots' offense is one of the most efficient in the conference, scoring 76 goals on 313 shots, with nearly two-thirds of those on target. Playmaker Yuvia Vazquez has also been crucial, leading the team with 16 assists.

On the defensive side, LSUS has been solid, allowing just 16 goals all season. Goalkeepers Karina Correa and Melanie Garcia have shared time in goal, each bringing unique strengths. Correa boasts a goals-against average of 0.55 with three clean sheets across ten starts, while Garcia has contributed eight starts, making 51 saves and recording a goals-against average of 1.36, along with two clean sheets.

LSUA enters Tuesday's semifinal on a six-game winning streak, including a 4-3 victory in their quarterfinal match, with Sacha Backus netting the game-winner and Sofia Jimeno Nogué adding two goals. LSUA's recent form, with five shutouts over their last six games, presents a worthy challenge for the Pilots.

Head coach Clark Charlestin and the Pilots are ready for the test, viewing the semifinal as both a significant opportunity and a proving ground. "We are excited to be in the final four of the conference tournament and are putting our thoughts and energy towards the game," said Charlestin. "LSUA is always a great opponent, so this game should be a good test for us to help us sharpen our gears."

As LSUS eyes a spot in the RRAC Championship, the Pilots are set to bring their signature intensity and team cohesion to the semifinal match, looking to extend their outstanding season and defend their Regular Season Champion title with another win on the tournament stage.
