Barbourville, Ky. – The Union Commonwealth University baseball team hosted St. Andrews on Friday in a doubleheader. The Bulldogs fell short in each game.
Game One:
Union fell 12-9 in nine innings. UCU tallied 12 hits, while St. Andrews registered 11. Ernesto Moreno was 3-for-5 with two runs scored and one RBI. His three hits were tied for the most by any player in the matchup.
Logan Romasanta, Brendan Hillis, and Max Charlton each recorded two hits. Romasanta and Charlton each tallied two RBIs, which was tied for the most by a Bulldog in the matchup.
Dalton Kottmer was UCU's starting pitcher. He allowed four earned runs in 3.0 innings pitched. Jackson Clark, Evan Hiatt, Cameron Schuster, and Eli Sizemore also pitched in the matchup for Union.
Game Two:
UCU fell 4-3 in six innings. Union had two runners in scoring position with two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning, but a ground out ended the game.
Romasanta, Isaiah Pintor, and Tucker Allen combined to register UCU's three hits in the matchup. St. Andrews tallied five hits.
Two RBIs were registered by Romasanta, which was tied for the most by any player in the matchup. Pintor led all players in stolen bases with three, while Brendan Hillis registered two.
Braylon Greene was the Bulldogs' starting pitcher. He allowed two earned runs in 3.2 innings pitched. Christian McCollough allowed one hit and no earned runs in 2.0 innings pitched. Grayson Makranyi also pitched for UCU.
The Bulldogs are now 4-5 (0-2 AAC) this season, while St. Andrews is 4-2 (2-0 AAC). Up next for UCU is a home game against Campbellsville on Tuesday, Feb. 18, at 1:00 p.m.
