
Volleyball Rebounds with Sweep of Lancers
(Hastings, NE) - Playing their first home game in exactly two weeks, the Hastings Bronco volleyball team took care of business, defeating Mount Marty 3-0 (25-13, 25-19, 25-19).
Hastings led 13-12 in the first set, then won 12 of the next 13 points, including 11 straight, to take the first set, 25-13. Senior Majesta Valasek had a team-high five kills in the first set to go along with nine assists from junior Alexis Pontine.
The Broncos dropped five of the first seven points in the second set, but rallied to take a 17-11 lead. The Lancers responded by winning seven of the next nine points, however Hastings regrouped and closed out the second set, 25-19. Freshman Makenna Sutter led the way with eight kills in the set and Pontine added 13 assists in the second set.
Mount Marty also started the third set strong, taking a 9-6 lead. Hastings won the next point and would win the next three points on service aces from senior Dacey Sealey. The Broncos controlled the set the rest of the way, winning the third and final set 25-19.
Valasek ended the game with 15 kills, closely followed by Sutter with 14. Pontine led the team in assists with 33 and Sealey led the team in digs with 11.
Coming up next, Hastings will be on the road on Saturday, September 21 at Concordia. The match is scheduled to start at 3pm in Friedrich Arena.
