Trojans Score Road Win at RV Mount Vernon Nazarene
MOUNT VERNON, Ohio – In its first outing since receiving votes in the NAIA Top-10 Poll the Taylor men's lacrosse team scored an impressive, 11-7, win at previously undefeated RV Mount Vernon Nazarene in a clash between two programs looking to secure a national ranking.
Will Saxby helped kickstart the Taylor offense in the defensive struggle, putting two shots in the back of the net in the opening period for a 4-2 TU advantage.
The lead swelled to 6-2 with unassisted scores from Henry Cooper and Jackson Dale early in the second, but the Cougars (7-1) scored the game's next four goals to draw even midway through the third.
Taylor took control over the final 20 minutes however, posting five unanswered strikes to put the game away. Saxby was once again in the middle of the rally, with two more goals, being followed by a spinning laser from Cooper to highlight the spurt.
Saxby ended with four goals, while Dale added two goals and three assists. Grant Elzinga posted five ground balls and three caused turnovers to highlight another defensive gem from the Trojans and Ben Harrell protected the lead with 14 saves in goal.
With the win, the Trojans closed their non-league slate with a 5-2 record, matching the program's best seven-game start since 2021.
RV Taylor (5-2) will open WHAC play on March 29 at 1:00 pm, when it hosts No. 9 Lawrence Tech (4-1).
