Westcliff pulls away late from CSUM

VALLEJO, Calif. – Even though Westcliff outscored Cal Maritime 17-5 in the first quarter of Thursday's Cal Pac Conference game at PEAC Main Gym, the Keelhaulers battled back to remain within striking distance for most of the evening until the visiting Warriors slowly pulled away throughout the latter portion of the fourth quarter to secure a 60-48 victory.

Helping CSUM's cause was its shooting after halftime as it hit 43 percent of its shots in the third and fourth quarter to negate its slow start.

Aysia Santos led all Keelhaulers with 14 points; by recording three of her five field goals from three, Tiare Novero-Paaga ended her evening with 13. Emily Newton connected on half of her shots from the floor, and both attempts at the line, to add another 11 points.

Addison Alsbury dominated the paint all night long by securing a game-high eight rebounds and was singlehandedly responsible for one-third of her team's total.

Also aiding CSUM's cause was its three-point shooting since it hit half the attempts taken in the second and fourth quarters.

Women's basketball will have one day to prepare for La Sierra since the Golden Eagles will visit PEAC Main Gym Saturday for a 6:30 p.m. Cal Pac clash.
