
#MustangsWin! Lady Mustangs Capitalize on Mistakes to Down Trojans!

Conway, Ark. – Playing for the second time at A.R. Reddin Fieldhouse this week, Central Baptist College women's basketball played host to American Midwest Conference rival Hannibal-LaGrange tonight. CBC (7-5, 5-3 AMC) led by nine at halftime and dominated the second half, beating HLGU (3-11, 1-7 AMC) 85-66 for their second straight win of 2025.
Four Lady Mustangs finished in double figures scoring, led by Aliya Grotjohn. The key stat was turnovers, of which CBC only committed 10 while forcing 22 and points off those turnovers, which went in favor of CBC 24-9.
GAME FLOW
The teams traded the lead twice in the early going before a three by Addison Hudspeth made it 7-4 three minutes and 11 seconds into the contest. The Mustangs saw the lead dwindle to one, 12-11, with 1:56 left before closing the quarter with a 7-2 run to lead 19-13 after one. CBC scored the first basket of the second quarter to stretch the lead to eight before HLGU went on a 6-0 run to cut the lead to 21-19 with 6:43 before halftime. A Riley Whittington layup with 6:12 left stretched the lead to four and, following a free throw, a three by Lydia York pushed the lead to 26-20. The Trojans made it a four-point deficit again with 55 seconds left before CBC closed on a 5-0 run to lead 38-29 at the break. The Lady Mustangs would put the game away in the third quarter, posting 27 points to lead 65-49 heading to the final stanza.
MUSTANG NOTES
- Grotjohn finished with a team-high 25 points and also grabbed a team-high 11 rebounds for her second career double-double
- Raigan Head finished with 16 points
- Whittington finished with 13 points and a team-high five assists
- Rhys Anderson added 10 off the bench
- CBC is now 16-6 all-time against HLGU and have won 13 straight dating back to 2018
- CBC is 6-1 when leading at halftime this season
