Skyhawks Take a Win and Two Losses in Home Opener Against Talladega

WEST POINT, Ga. (Feb. 7-8, 2025) - The Point University Baseball team began their home opener against the Tornadoes of Talladega for a weekend series. In an exceptional display of skill and strategy, the Point University Skyhawks commenced their regular season with a convincing win over the Talladega (AL) Tornadoes with a final score of 6-2 in the first game. On Saturday, the Skyhawks continued their series with a doubleheader but fell to the Tornadoes with scores of 12-2 and 6-4. 

Game One (6-2, Win) 

The Skyhawks demonstrated their prowess on the field with a well-rounded performance from the team. Zavion Anderson, Jaden Mazzaferro, Rafael Jackson, Daniel Gonzalez, Brett Campbell, and Brady Bye were instrumental in adding to the scoreboard. The team's offensive effort was supported by crucial RBIs delivered by Rafael Jackson, Daniel Gonzalez, Brady Bye, Arwin Burgos, and Sam Baker. 
 
Starting pitcher Maxime Beaulieu showcased impressive skills, laying a strong foundation for the victory. Special mention was made of Sam Baker, whose clutch single drove in a vital run, and Michael Buckley, whose consistent hitting played a key role in building the team's momentum. 
 
A highlight of the game was Brady Bye's sacrifice fly which allowed Daniel Gonzalez to score, exemplifying the strategic gameplay that led to the Skyhawks' victory.   

Game Two (12-2, Loss) 

In a challenging outing for the Point University Skyhawks, the team faced a tough loss against the Tornadoes which concluded with a final score of 12-2 in favor of Talladega (AL). 
 
Point University's offensive highlights were delivered by Zavion Anderson and Jaden Mazzaferro, who each managed to cross the plate in this contest. Mazzaferro notably contributed a double in the first inning, driving in one run, marking a key moment for the Skyhawks. Keegan Moore also added an RBI, contributing to the team's effort. Josh Castillo took the mound as the starting pitcher for Point University, striving to contain the opposing offense. Despite these efforts, Talladega proved overwhelming, securing the victory in this encounter.  

Game Three (6-4, Loss) 

Despite a strong effort, the Skyhawks fell short with a final score of 4-6 in the third game against the Tornadoes. 
 
In a game that showcased the resilience and skill of the Skyhawks' lineup, Rafael Jackson and Michael Buckley each made crucial contributions. Buckley crossed the plate twice, demonstrating his speed and strategic prowess, while Rafael Jackson added a run to the Skyhawks' tally. Jaden Mazzaferro, Daniel Gonzalez, and Chris Mancill each recorded RBIs, pushing the team's offensive efforts. 
 
Houston Wedgeworth took the mound as the starting pitcher for the Skyhawks. His performance was a critical component of the day, facing off against a competitive Talladega team. Despite the loss, the Point University team showcased their fighting spirit and commitment to the game.
