WICHITA, Kan. – Back in action for the first time in nearly a week, Avila volleyball lost in straight sets to Friends on Thursday night.
Avila kept it close in the first set, holding a 12-8 lead early. The Eagles then had two set point opportunities before Friends came back thanks to a 3-0 run to close out the set and take the opening frame, 26-24.
After falling behind 9-8 early in the set, the Eagles went on to lead by as many as five points in the second. The Eagles again held a 21-20 lead late in the second set, but being outscored 4-1 in the final five points gave the second set to Friends.
Friends put the game away in the third set, leading the entire way and winning the set, 25-17.
Avila finished the match with 34 assists to Friends' 32, led by 17 from Daphne Gardner and 12 from Lexi Schimpa. Megan Davies led the Eagles with 12 kills.
