Mustangs sweep Dordt with double-digit wins

SIOUX CENTER, Iowa — A combined 22-run day allowed the Morningside baseball team to sweep Dordt on Friday by scores of 11-0 and 11-1.

The Mustangs (18-3-1, 5-1 GPAC) collectively had 19 hits in the Great Plains Athletic Conference doubleheader.

Game 1: Morningside 11, Dordt 0

The Mustangs opened up scoring with a 3-run double by Giacomo Crosetti. His hit down the left field line scored Michael Delzell, Ryan Kiolbassa, and Kade Yasui.

Morningside then added four more runs during the fifth inning. Jacob O'Dell and Yasui had sacrifice flies, while Delzell scored on a wild pitch, and Luke Blackmon on a balk.

The last four runs came during the seventh. Connor Woods scored after Yasui stole second, and Yasui had an RBI with a sac fly. Nathan Thomas drove in Yasui with an RBI single, and Delzell produced runs 10 and 11 with a double.

Cade Nolan picked up the win. He held the Defenders scoreless through six innings, holding them to three hits. He also had six strikeouts. Brady Seuntjens pitched a scoreless seventh.

Game 2: Mustangs 11, Defenders 1

Morningside scored in each of the first five innings. Crosetti and Sam Wilt cashed in two runs during the first inning.

Delzell knocked in a run in the second inning off a Dordt error, while Yasui scored Wilt on a fielder's choice in the third.

Blackmon produced the key hit during a four-run fourth, as he had a two-run single.

During the fifth, Wilt had an RBI double, while O'Dell drove one in with a single. Delzell also homered during the seventh.

Tiago Sanchez received the win on the mound. He pitched five innings, allowing just one run on four hits. Sanchez had eight strikeouts. Tyler Lawrence pitched two scoreless innings in relief.
