
Koala Women Rally in 2nd Half, but Fall Short at Johnson
KNOXVILLE, TN - The Columbia College women's basketball team dropped their conference road game at Johnson University on Saturday falling 83-72 in Knoxville.
Johnson got off to a fast start leading 25-15 after the first quarter and took a 47-36 lead into halftime. However, the Koalas, once trailing by 13, rallied in the third quarter going on a 26-5 run to eventually take their biggest lead of the game at 66-58 late in the third. JU would get to within 66-61 after three as CC outscored the Royals 30-14 in the quarter.
Unfortunately for Columbia, the Royals would hold CC to just six points in the fourth including shutting them out for the first 6:20 of the period as they went on a 14-0 run to lead by nine. JU would outscore the Koalas 22-6 to get the win improving to 20-4 overall and 15-3 in the AAC.
Columbia fell to 16-9 on the season and 9-9 in conference. CC shot 35% overall and 31 percent from three while making 15 of 21 free throws. Senior forward Tamyra Davis led the team with 16 points, 7 rebounds and a block while sophomore guard Tysonia Lowe recorded a double-double of 12 points and 11 rebounds along with 3 assists, four steals and a block.
Senior shooting guard Callie Hermanson also added a season-high 11 points while junior point guard Layla Wall posted 8 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists. Fellow guard Kindan Dawson also registered 10 points off the bench while junior forwards Jadein Haynes and CeCe Burke combined for 15 points and 4 rebounds.
Columbia returns home Wednesday to host rival CIU at 5:30 pm.
