Forest City--Hitting the road for the first time this fall, the Statesmen women's soccer team moved into the win column by defeating Waldorf 4-1 in non-conference play Tuesday.
WPU (1-1-1), which outshot the Warriors 20-5, gave Head Coach Kaleb Preston the first victory of his collegiate coaching career.
The visitors got on the board in the 31st minute when Madison Ellis (So., Vancouver, B.C., Business Management) slid a ball in front of the goal and Lina Regadane (So., So., Ijmuiden, Netherlands, Business Management) drilled it into the netting.
Still up 1-0 in the early moments of the second half, Waldorf was whistled for a foul in the box and Luca Szucs (Jr., Gyor, Hungary, Exercise Science) put the Statesmen up by two goals with a penalty-kick score.
The Warriors (0-3) unfortunately cut the margin in half four minutes later, but Madison Soratos (Fr., Murrieta, Calif., Psychology) answered at the 78:47 mark with an unassisted tally.
India Foger (Jr., Las Vegas, Nev., Exercise Science) then put the exclamation point on the triumph with another unassisted score in the 83rd minute.
Twelve separate Statesmen managed a shot attempt with Regadane finishing with four, while Szucs and Ellis both had three.
Billings recorded two saves to collect the win in her collegiate debut.
"All of the work the ladies have put in this preseason paid off tonight," Preston said. "It is really nice to get into the win column after a slower start to the year. We had a lot of attacking opportunities; we will use this to build confidence going forward in the season."
