Bees get to 2-0 with 76-51 win over Moody Bible

For the second straight day, a big second half carried the Bees. St. Ambrose improved to 2-0 with a 76-51 victory over Moody Bible on the second day of the Calumet Wave Classic in Whiting, Ind., Saturday afternoon.

Hours after outscoring Grace Christian 34-19 in the second half of a 66-48 win, SAU was even better against Moody.

The Bees led just 36-29 at the half but never gave the Archers a chance over the final 20 minutes.

SAU connected on 17-of-27 shots after halftime, good for 63 percent. The Bees were 5-of-12 from beyond the arc and out-rebounded the Archers 20-13.

The margin was only 45-40 six minutes into the second half before St. Ambrose took control.

Solomon Garrison started an 8-0 run with a layup. Grant Mason scored four quick points before Collin Wainscott knocked down a jumper for a 53-40 lead.

After two Moody free throws, Mason buried a 3-pointer. Then, following an Archer basket, Aiden Cilladi scored inside and then Wainscott and Cilladi hit back-to-back 3-pointers. Will Spriggs added a basket to extend the lead to 66-44.

The game was never in doubt from there.

Twelve different Bees scored in the victory, including three in double figures.

Mason again led the way. After scoring a career-high 21 in Friday's win, he came back with 15 points Saturday. Wainscott and Guillermo Narbona each netted 10 points.

Cilladi finished with eight points, Kieran Farrell threw in seven and Ignacio Dacunda added six. Nikos Gerokostas scored five points, Spriggs and Zane Witt had four apiece, and Alec Platipodis dropped in three. Garrison and Nolan Sexton also scored.

Narbona and Cilladi each added seven rebounds and four assists in the win.

St. Ambrose will play its home opener Wednesday against Clarke.
