
Bees take care of Crimson Wave in three sets
St. Ambrose wasted little time in defeating Calumet St. Joseph 25-17, 25-20, 25-20 Tuesday night in Whiting, Ind.
The Bees set the tone early, putting down 16 kills and hitting at a .351 clip in the opening set. SAU cooled slightly from there, finishing the match with a .237 attack percentage, but CCSJ hit just .052 for the match.
Fourteen different Bees finished with at least one kill, with 10 players ending with multiple kills.
Mackenzie Grafton and Adriana Diaz led the way with five kills apiece. Trenyce Bonner, Kylie Brosius, Grace Beitzel and Kat Rivera each put down four kills. Sofia Pabon Velazquez and Ella Gatz had three each, and C.J. Starke and Kaleigh Bergschneider each finished with two.
SAU received single kills from Alexa Orozco, Haley Doucet, Ines Marques and Kennedy Hugunin.
Marques was credited with a team-best 13 assists. Doucet had 11. Along with picking up seven digs, Kenia Diaz Vega collected four assists. Toni Maloy registered three assists and Brosius and Devyn Church added a pair each.
Bergschneider paced the Bees with nine digs. Diaz had eight, Marques and Maloy finished with seven each, and Orozco added six.
Marques (three), Doucet (two) and Bergschneider (two) combined for all seven of SAU's aces.
St. Ambrose (10-14, 4-5 CCAC) will visit Trinity Christian Thursday.
