Pilots Fall Short in Nail-Biter Against XULA, 65-62

SHREVEPORT, La. — The Louisiana State University Shreveport (LSUS) women's basketball team battled down to the wire but ultimately fell 65-62 to Xavier University of Louisiana (XULA) on Monday afternoon at The Dock.

The Pilots (5-3, 4-1 RRAC) were led by standout performances from Helena Galunic and Selma Markisic, who each tallied 13 points. Galunic also contributed four rebounds and four assists, while Markisic added three rebounds and two steals. Despite their efforts, the Pilots couldn't overcome the Gold Rush, who were anchored by Kam Shelley's dominant 22-point performance, supported by Zaria Harleaux's 14 points, four rebounds, and two assists.

LSUS shot 44.6 percent from the field but struggled from beyond the arc, converting just 23.5 percent of their three-point attempts. The Pilots also managed 57.1 percent from the free-throw line. Xavier capitalized on their opportunities, shooting 47.5 percent from the field, 33.3 percent from three-point range, and 66.7 percent from the line.

The game was tightly contested throughout, with the Pilots fighting hard on both ends of the court. However, a three-point basket from  in the closing minutes allowed the Gold Rush to edge out the victory and improve their record.

The Pilots will look to regroup as they head on the road for their next matchup against Paul Quinn College in Dallas, Texas. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m. on December 5.
