
WAU Men’s Basketball Falls to Georgetown College, 76-113
GEORGETOWN, KY — The Washington Adventist University (WAU) men's basketball team faced a challenging matchup on Sunday, January 5, falling 76-113 to Georgetown College, a nationally ranked NAIA powerhouse who currently sits at #1 on the NAIA Men's Basketball Coaches Poll for 2024-25. The game marked the conclusion of WAU's tough Kentucky road trip.
The Shock struggled to contain Georgetown's high-powered offense, which set the tone early with efficient scoring and defensive pressure. WAU showed moments of promise, with Jalen Anderson leading the way offensively, contributing 12 first-half points. Chase Cooke added 9 points and three assists, providing a first-half spark for the team in stretches. Despite their efforts, WAU entered halftime trailing 45-33.
In the second half, WAU continued to battle, finding success in transition and from beyond the arc, but Georgetown's depth and relentless pace proved too much to overcome. The Tigers capitalized on turnovers and maintained control of the boards, extending their lead and closing out the game decisively.
The Shock shot 42.3 percent (30-of-71) from the field, with nine of its makes coming from long range. Anderson led the Shock in scoring, finishing with 21 points, while Cooke followed with 19 points and six rebounds.
Julian King (17), Anthony Perry (9), Felix McGhee (8), and James Quinn (2) also found the scoring column. King led the team in rebounding, grabbing ten boards for the Shock solidifying his double-double. Seven Shock players saw time on the floor.
The Shock will return home to regroup and refocus as they prepare for the next phase of their season. The loss drops WAU to 3-9 on the season. The Shock will look to bounce back as they host Cheyney University on Monday, January 13 in Takoma Park, MD at the Pitt.
