Men's Basketball Can't Overcome First Half Deficit in Loss at Grand View

The Culver-Stockton College men's basketball team fell to Grand View University 85-74 Saturday night at Dave Sisam Arena in Des Moines, Iowa.

The Wildcats, who won their first game of the year earlier in the week at Clarke University, trailed 41-33 at the intermission. C-SC closed to within 44-38 in the opening minute of the second half, but a 9-0 run by the Vikings over the next three minutes upped the lead to 15 and the Wildcats never got closer than seven points the rest of the game.

Grand View made 26 free throws in the game, the most against the Wildcats this season, on 31 attempts. C-SC went 19-for-26 from the foul line. The Vikings also outscored C-SC 39-21 from the 3-point arc.

Tai Walters-Whitaker scored a season-high 24 points to lead the Wildcats in scoring. Walters-Whitaker went 10-for-12 from the free throw line. He also grabbed six rebounds and recorded three steals.

Connor Davis was the only other Wildcat to reach double figures, netting 22 points in the game. Davis, who has scored in double figures in all 10 games this season, scored 20 or more points for the fifth time this year. Davis also matched Walters-Whitaker with six caroms.

The Wildcats will try to win for the first time in front of the home fans tis Wednesday, Dec. 11, when they host Mount Mercy University at Charles Field House. Game time is slated for 7:30 p.m.
