
V-Hawks Win Conference Regular Season
SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The Viterbo University Women's Volleyball team defeated Indiana South Bend in four sets (25-18, 25-17, 17-25, 25-17) to round out the final game of the regular season. The V-Hawks rise to 22-9 (CCAC 14-0) while the Titans fall to 3-27 (CCAC 3-11).
Cailie Kowal would find Jada Mitchell to secure the first kill of the match before Izzy Jahr would find the sweet spot with back to back kills. The V-Hawks would keep a narrow lead over the Titans with a specialty kill from Maddie Connor set up by Grace Check. With a plan in place, Grace Peyron and Mitchell would successfully go up for the block taking the first set.
The V-Hawks would battle it out for the lead early in set two, the Kowal-Mitchell duo finding a rhythm with two kills early, followed by a kill by Martina McGrath. On the 20th point the V-Hawks would begin to pull away in the lead with kills by Halverson and a block by Sadie Treptow and Mitchell.
Starting from behind the V-Hawks would catch a break for the lead with a five point run, led by McGrath, who would find a block with Peyron and another kill before IUSB would claim set three.
Treptow would come out ready in the fourth set with the first two V-Hawk kills of the set, with Mitchell and Peyron backing her with kills of their own. Kenidi McCabe on the serve would take an ace during a four point run with Mitchell leading the pack, before taking the next four V-Hawk kills pursuing the lead. Treptow once again in prime attack position would find herself with the winning kill on the night.
Mitchell led the V-Hawks with 16 kills, while Connor supplied 25 assists and Kowal with 20. McCabe took 24 digs, Macy Sherman led the Titans with 10 kills.
The V-Hawks return to the court Tuesday, November 12 as they host the first round of the CCAC Conference Tournament.
