WAU Men’s Basketball Falls to Haskell Indian Nations in WAU CAC Classic Opener
Takoma Park, MD – The Washington Adventist University (WAU) men's basketball team suffered a hard-fought loss to Haskell Indian Nations University, 69-57, in the opening game of the WAU CAC Classic on Friday night at The Pitt.
The Shock started the game with energy, trading baskets with Haskell in a tightly contested first half. Rande Harper led the WAU offense early, contributing 19 points, four rebounds, three steals, and one block as the team kept the score within reach, trailing by ten points at the break.
In the second half, Haskell's disciplined defense and timely perimeter shooting began to create separation every time the Shock would cut into the lead. Despite a strong effort from Emanuel Hylton and Jalen Anderson, who combined for 21 points, WAU struggled to find consistency on offense, allowing Haskell to build a double-digit lead.
The Shock showed resilience late in the game, mounting a brief rally, but it wasn't enough to close the gap. Haskell sealed the win with free throws and clutch shooting in the final minutes.
The Shock shot 38.5 percent (20-of-52) from the field, with three of its makes coming from long range. Harper led the Shock in scoring, finishing with 21 points, while Anderson followed with 11 points and three rebounds.
Hylton (10), Jayling McNeil (7), Jordan Anderson (3), and James Quinn (1), also found the scoring column. McNeil led the team in rebounding, grabbing eight boards. Eight Shock players saw time on the floor.
WAU will look to regroup and bounce back in their next matchup of the WAU CAC Classic, aiming to defend their home court facing Fisher on Saturday, January 18 at 9:15 p.m.
