#MustangsWin! #14 CBC Never Trails In Win Over John Brown!

Erik Holth, CBC Sports Information Director

Conway, Ark. – Playing at home for the second night in a row, #14 Central Baptist College men's basketball hosted the Golden Eagles of John Brown University at A.R. Reddin Fieldhouse on Championship night, as the 2023-24 team received their championship rings from last year's record setting season. #14 CBC (3-0) never trailed, leading by as much as 21 in the first half before winning 81-71 over JBU (1-1).

"It was a tough game," said head coach Sam Kohnke in his postgame comments. "John Brown is a good shooting team. They can really get hot. They play good, smart basketball. We knew that coming in. Credit to them, they played well. Proud of my guys. When they were making their runs, we stayed level headed. We have a lot of leaders and tough minded people."

"I'm not worried about the stats," said Sage Borbon, who was the leading scorer for CBC with 20 points, including 11 of the first 19 for the Mustangs. "Coach had me put in the work this summer and he trusts me and I have confidence and I'm just going to keep playing freely on the court."

Joining Borbon in double figures were Hykeem Hancock and Keryn Collins, who both finished with 12 and Wade Williams, who dropped in 10. Jonas Carlisle led the way on the glass with nine rebounds while Borbon and Collins both had five assists to lead the squad. CBC shot 49 percent from the field and grabbed 41 rebounds while holding JBU to just 41 percent from the field and 31 rebounds in a game that saw just 17 turnovers combined.
