NEW ORLEANS – The LSU Shreveport Pilots remained perfect on the season, sweeping Xavier University (La.) in a Friday afternoon doubleheader with wins of 7-2 and 15-4. The Pilots improved to 22-0 overall and 10-0 in Red River Athletic Conference play.
Game 1: LSUS 7, Xavier (La.) 2
Draven Zeigler (6-0) delivered another dominant performance for the Pilots, tossing seven innings while allowing four hits, two runs, and striking out nine.
At the plate, Anthony Swenda powered LSUS with three RBIs, including a solo home run in the sixth inning. Josh Gibson and Ryan Davenport each drove in a run, while Christian Hobbs swiped two bases.
Xavier's offense was led by Cohen Boyd, who homered in the fourth inning, and Jayden Smith, who knocked in a run in the second. Hunter Wheaton (1-2) took the loss, surrendering six runs on seven hits over five innings.
Game 2: LSUS 15, Xavier (La.) 4
The Pilots' bats exploded in the second game, led by Vantrel Reed and Austin Gomm, who each recorded four RBIs and homered. Jackson Syring also went deep, finishing with an RBI. Diego Aragon added two RBIs, while Swenda, Angel Rodriguez, and Cameron Henson each drove in one.
Cobe Reeves (4-0) was stellar on the mound, striking out nine over five shutout innings while allowing just one hit and two walks. Xavier's Chad McKenzie (0-3) struggled, giving up nine runs in 1.2 innings.
For the Gold Rush, Boyd and Kai Higginson drove in a run each, while Eric Griffin hit a solo home run in the seventh inning.
