Volleyball Falls 3-1 in Rematch with Montreat
COLUMBIA, SC - The Columbia College volleyball team fell 3-1 against conference foe Montreat College (NC) at home Tuesday night.
Freshman RSH Tamia Fripp recorded a season-high of 14 kills and 3 blocks, hitting at a percentage of 500. Senior OH Jada Gentry posted 9 kills and 12 digs while freshman libero Katie Roberts had a good night with 15 digs. Senior middles Destiny Brown and Mikayla Stout also combined for 8 kills with Brown adding 2 blocks.
Montreat controlled the first set taking it 25-20 on 12 kills while CC had nine. A pivotal second set then saw the Koalas rally to tie the match at 23 all before the teams went back and forth until MC stole the set 31-29. Columbia rallied to win the third set 26-24 on 14 kills hitting .194 but the Cavs closed it out in the fourth set as MC pulled away late to take it 25-18. CC totaled 41 kills in the match including double-digit kills in 2 of the 4 sets.
Sophomore Setter Debra Shephard played well recording 37 assists along with 5 digs, 3 kills and 2 aces while Senior OH Gracie Hicklin put up 7 kills and 5 digs. Sophomore DS Dani Goings had 9 digs.
CC falls to 6-19 overall and 5-13 in the conference while Montreat improved to 8-6 .
Columbia returns to action on Friday night when they head to face Bluefield University at 6:30 pm.
