Union volleyball defeats Pikeville in three sets

Barbourville, Ky. – The Union Commonwealth University volleyball team defeated Pikeville on Saturday. The Bulldogs won 3-0 (25-20, 25-23, 25-18).

Raquel Kessler tallied a game-leading 14 kills, while Emily Shumaker registered eight and Jasmine Porter totaled seven. Maddy McGaughey led UCU in assists with 16, while Sarah Charkosky tallied 15.

Nicole Almestica led all players in digs with 14, while McKenna Pickett registered 11. Kessler and McGaughey each tallied eight digs.

Prior to the game, a presentation was held to recognize McGaughey for recently earning more than 1,000 career assists as a Bulldog. McGaughey surpassed the mark in Tuesday's match over Johnson.

The Bulldogs are now 6-11 (4-3 AAC) this season, while Pikeville is 8-6 (3-3 AAC). Up next for UCU is a road conference match against Bluefield on Tuesday, Oct. 1, at 6:30 p.m.
