Waldorf Baseball Splits Day 1 Against Hastings College

HASTINGS, Neb. - Waldorf Baseball hit the road for their first conference series against the Hastings Broncos.
In Game 1, Waldorf took a big lead at the top of the first inning with seven runs by Rylee Rauch, Seth Mifflin, Tyler Wytulka, Atticus Smith, Brendon McKelvey, Mason Smith, and Dylan Battye. Hastings scored their first run in the bottom of the third, four runs in the fourth inning, and four runs in the sixth inning, taking a 9-7 lead. Waldorf scored their final run for the game at the top of the seventh by McKelvey, but it would not be enough to overtake Hastings, who won 9-8.
Ryan Webster would bat a double, Rauch and M. Smith had one RBI each, and Seth Mifflin and A. Smith had two RBIs each.
In Game 2, both teams went scoreless for the first two innings. Waldorf's McKelvey and Battye scored one run each in top of the third and took the 2-0 lead. At the top of the fourth, Waldorf's Wytulka would score again to extend the Warriors lead to 3-0. In the fifth inning, Wytulka hit a home run to right field, bringing Webster and Romero home and extending the Warriors lead 6-0. Waldorf held Hastings scoreless until the bottom of the fifth when they scored their only run of the game. Wytulka scored two more runs, one in the seventh and one in the ninth innings, and with McKelvey's run in the ninth, Waldorf won the game 9-1.
Wytulka led the way for the Warriors with three RBIs and a home run. McKelvey had an RBI and a double, and Isaiah Martin and Battye had two RBIs each.
The Warriors play Hastings in Day 2 of their first conference series on Sunday, March 16.
