Grand View takes Top 25 matchup over Football

No. 4-ranked Grand View University earned a 52-28 win over No. 12 Benedictine Football on Saturday in the second Heart Conference Network Game of the Week.

The Ravens opened the game with a 4-play, 64-yard drive that was capped off with a 5-yard touchdown run by Jackson Dooley. From there, the Ravens offense stalled out leading to 26 unanswered points from Grand View. Dalton Witherspoon gave the Ravens their second rushing touchdown of the game, scoring on a 1-yard rush to close the Ravens deficit to 13 before Grand View answered to lead 35-13 at the half.

The two teams traded touchdowns in the third quarter, with Dooley scoring a 10-yard rushing touchdown before Grand View put the game away with a 17-point fourth quarter. Witherspoon added his second rushing touchdown late in the fourth quarter to round out the Ravens scoring on the day.

Benedictine finished with 363 yards on 70 offensive plays while Grand View finished with 549 yards on 74 offensive plays.

Witherspoon finished with 49 yards on 17 carries while Xavier Ugori added 46 yards on 4 carries. Dooley finished with 288 yards passing on 20 of 39 with 1 interception. Jacob Gathright led the Ravens receivers with 123 yards on 7 receptions while Joseph Lagafuaina added 86 yards on 5 receptions.

Joe Gaines led the Ravens with 8 tackles, followed by Dylan Witherspoon with 7 and Abram Phillips with 6. The Ravens finished with 7 tackles for a loss by 8 players. Zachary LaCombe added an interception to round out the Ravens' top defensive performers.

After two straight home games, the Ravens hit the road next week, traveling to Davenport, Iowa, to take on Heart newcomer St. Ambrose University at 1 p.m. They return home on Sept. 28 to host No. 18 Baker University as part of Benedictine's annual Family Weekend.
