
WAU Men’s Basketball Falls to Johnson University 94-61 in Second Road Game
Knoxville, TN – The Washington Adventist University (WAU) men's basketball team faced a tough challenge on Sunday, November 3, 2024, as they took on Johnson University in Knoxville, TN to close the Shock's second doubleheader of their opening weekend. In their second road game of the season, the Shock were outpaced by a strong Johnson squad, falling 94-61.
From the opening tip, Johnson University displayed a high-tempo offense and an aggressive defense, quickly building a lead that put WAU on their heels. Despite determined efforts from Anthony Perry, who led the Shock in scoring, Johnson's well-coordinated offense allowed them to pull away with a sizable 22-point halftime lead.
WAU came out in the second half with renewed energy, looking to close the gap. Chase Cooke and Jaziel Mensah-Agyekum provided key contributions, making crucial plays on both ends of the court. However, the Royal's depth and accuracy from the field proved too much to overcome. The Shock fought to the end but ultimately fell short, with Johnson sealing the game at 94-61.
The Shock shot 29.9 percent (23-of-77) from the field, with five of its makes coming from long range. Perry led the Shock in scoring, finishing with 15 points and eight rebounds, while Emanuel Hylton followed with 13 points and four rebounds.
Cooke (12), Mensah-Agyekum (8), Jaylin McNeil (5), Seth Wright (4), Jalen Anderson (2), and Julian King (2) also found the scoring column. Ten Shock players saw time on the floor.
With this defeat, WAU's record drops to 0-2. The Shock will look to regroup and refocus as they prepare for their next matchup against Mid-Atlantic Christian on Wednesday, November 6, aiming to bounce back and secure their first win of the season.
