Women's Basketball Runs Away From St. Andrews

ATHENS, Tenn.- The women's basketball team won their third game in a row by defeating the St. Andrews University Lady Knights 65-48 on Saturday.

Tennessee Wesleyan came out firing in the AAC contest, with Courtney Farr draining an early three-pointer to give the Bulldogs momentum. Jacelyn Stone added to the offensive surge with a three-point play, pushing Tennessee Wesleyan ahead 6-4. Anna Crowder then nailed a three-pointer, breaking a 6-6 tie. The Lady Bulldogs' defense was relentless, forcing turnovers and limiting St. Andrews to just 12 points. Tennessee Wesleyan scored 10 straight points to build a 24-12 advantage at the end of the first quarter.

Talley Lawson opened the scoring for Tennessee Wesleyan in the second quarter. Ella Crowder followed with a three-pointer to make the score 29-14 with 7:45 remaining until halftime. With 1:32 remaining, St. Andrews had cut the lead down to seven points. A layup near the end of the half by Sierra Bates helped the team take a 40-31 lead into halftime.

The third quarter proved to be a defensive showcase for the Lady Bulldogs. St. Andrews was held to just six points in the period as TWU tightened their coverage and forced multiple turnovers. Julia Howard made a layup to make the score 42-35 while Jaci Powell's timely three-pointer helped the team get back out to a comfortable margin a few moments later, giving the team a 49-35 lead. Stone's layup gave the Lady Bulldogs a 51-37 lead at the end of the third quarter.

Tennessee Wesleyan maintained control in the fourth, preventing any St. Andrews comeback attempt. A. Crowder connected on a three-pointer to give the team their largest lead of the game, a 59-37 advantage. Lawson put the final touch on the victory with a layup giving the Lady Bulldogs their winning score. 

A. Crowder led the offense with 19 points. 

TWU (12-9, 9-7 AAC) goes on the road for their next conference game on Wednesday. The team will face Truett McConnell University at 5:30 p.m.
