Women's Soccer Drops Midweek Road Match at Benedictine, 2-0

ATCHISON, Kan. - Coming away with a win in their previous road contest, Baker women's soccer fell to Benedictine, 2-0 in Atchison, Kan. on Wednesday evening to move to a 3-3 record in matches away from Baldwin City this season.

With the Wildcats fending off a 17-shot bombardment in a scoreless first half, the Ravens finally broke through in the second half, scoring a pair of goals in the final 30 minutes to earn their seventh straight win.

Baker recorded three shots in each half with Kaycee Tanner and Lydia Brinker putting up the only ones towards net with Tanner almost connecting on a one-touch shot from a cross by Emma Schieber in the 66th minute.

Avery Young kept the Ravens off the scoreboard for over an hour of game time, while tallying four of her six saves in the first half.

With less than 10 minutes left to go in the opening half, the Wildcats nearly struck gold on their second corner kick of the match with Caitlin Youles' header bouncing off the back post and spoiling a chance for BU to break the scoreless deadlock before halftime.

In the second half, Benedictine scored off a deflected free kick in the 63rd minute and added a second one in the 76th to seal the 2-0 result.

Up next, Baker will look for its second win in Iowa this year with a road match at Clarke on Saturday, Oct. 5 at 5 p.m. in Dubuque.
