Red Wolves Split Matches

MT. VERNON, Ohio - The Indiana University East women's volleyball team split a pair of contests to begin the 2024 season on Friday, Aug. 16.

The Red Wolves beat Huntington University 25-21, 19-25, 26-24, 25-21 in the opener of the Mount Vernon Nazarene University Cougar Classic in Ariel Arena. Later against the host Cougars, IU East fell 25-18, 27-25, 25-17 to the No. 20 team in the nation.

Aubrey Miller led IU East with 12 kills versus Huntington, while Teah Barrett Matthews had 11 and Tia Cooper added 10. Sheridan Phillips, Barrett Matthews and Cooper each had four blocks.

Reece Shirley ran the offense for the Red Wolves with 38 assists as she also had a team-high three aces. Ella Bickel finished with 16 digs.

In the Mount Vernon Nazarene match, Jessica Swimm topped IU East with 10 kills. Shirley finished with 19 assists.

Bickel led the way with 17 digs as Summer Hendershot contributed 10. Phillips had four blocks for the second straight match. 

IU East (1-1) finishes the event on Saturday against Madonna University at noon and Rochester Christian University at 2 p.m.
