Slow Start Derails Wildcats' Chance for Sixth Straight Victory

The Culver-Stockton College women's volleyball team got off to a slow start against Mount Mercy University Tuesday night at Charles Field House.

A 25-8 loss in the opening game set the stage for a 25-8, 25-21, 25-18 loss to the Mustangs, derailing the Wildcats' five-match winning streak, and dropping their record to 7-5 overall and 1-1 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference.

The Wildcats recorded 27 total kills in the match, eight fewer than the Mustangs who had 35 total kills and a .243 hitting percentage. C-SC committed 25 attack errors, with 10 of those errors coming as a result of blocks by the Mustangs.

Zoe Irvin totaled nine terminations to lead the Wildcat offensive attack. Ashleigh Brawley garnered six kills, while Lauren Bloom has 14 set assists.

Kyla Ellis, this week's conference defender of the week, continued to play well in the back row, registering 17 digs in the match. Brawley was strong at the net with four block assists to go along with her six terminations.

C-SC is slated to play in a triangular match this Saturday, Sept. 21, at Stephens College in Columbia, Mo. The Wildcats are scheduled to face Bethany (Kan.) at 5 p.m. to be followed by a match with Stephens at 7 p.m.
