Women’s Soccer Edges out Northwestern With Second Half Scoring Frenzy

Orange City, Iowa- The Graceland University Women's Soccer team went up against the Northwestern University Raiders. The Yellowjackets defeated the Raiders 5-3. The Yellowjackets move to 2-0 overall on the season.

Scoring:
First Half
The Yellowjackets would get on the board first when Caitlin Lageman found the back of the net, working around the defender to put Graceland up 1-0 (21-minute mark). The Raiders would retaliate and even the score 1-1 at the 25-minute mark. Northwestern would take a one-goal advantage six minutes later (2-1). The Raiders would lead 3-1 heading into the second half with a last-minute goal.

Second Half
Skye Hernandez exploded through the defenders to find the back of the net to close the Yellowjacket's deficit (52-minute mark). Emily Carmen would take the corner kick and assist Hernandez for her second goal of the game to even the score 3-3. At the 89-minute mark, Lageman charged down the field to put the ball past the goalkeeper for her second goal and gave the Yellowjackets a 4-3 lead. Just minutes later, Graceland secured their 5-3 victory with a Mayra Gutierrez goal assisted by Chloe Montera.

Alexia Johnson would have eight key saves in the second half.
