
Warriors Falls to (RV) Northwestern in GPAC Action
FREMONT, Neb. – Midland University hosted (RV) Northwestern College in a Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) matchup on Saturday afternoon inside Wikert Event Center. In a game that was dominated by the visitors, the Warriors fell to the Red Raiders by a score of 87-48.
Midland opened the game on a hot streak, making their first three shots to take a 7-4 lead. However, Northwestern responded with a 14-point run, part of a 23-5 stretch, to close out the first quarter with a 27-12 advantage.
The Red Raiders continued to extend their lead early in the second quarter before Grace Holm connected on one of her four three-pointers. Moments later, Jenna Weber added a layup to trim the deficit to 12 points. The Warriors found an offensive rhythm in the quarter, shooting 4-for-4 from beyond the arc and outscoring Northwestern by a single point. Despite their efforts, Midland trailed 48-34 at halftime.
In the third quarter, Northwestern's defense took control, stifling Midland's offense and holding the Warriors to just six points. Midland endured an extended scoring drought of 8:04 that spanned the end of the third quarter into the fourth.
Ellie Bovaird broke the drought with a three-pointer at the 6:47 mark of the fourth quarter, making it 76-43. During Midland's scoring lapse, Northwestern scored 14 consecutive points. The Red Raiders maintained their defensive pressure the rest of the way, limiting the Warriors to just five additional points and securing the 87-48 victory.
Midland shot 20-for-54 (37%) from the field and 7-for-16 (43.8%) from three-point range. Northwestern, meanwhile, shot a blistering 33-for-56 (58.9%) overall and 9-for-15 (60%) from beyond the arc. The Red Raiders dominated the boards, out-rebounding the Warriors 41-19, including a 10-4 edge on offensive rebounds.
Holm led Midland with 12 points, shooting a perfect 4-for-4 from three-point range. She added two rebounds and one assist. Erin Foxhall paced the Warriors on the glass with four rebounds while contributing six points and four assists.
Midland (1-14, 1-8 GPAC) will continue conference play on Wednesday, January 8, when they travel to Hastings (10-5, 5-4 GPAC). Tipoff is set for 2:00 p.m. at Lynn Farrell Arena in Hastings, Neb.
