
Wildcats Make Quick Work of Clarke to End Three-Match Skid
The Culver-Stockton College women's volleyball team broke a three-match losing streak by making quick work of Clarke University Tuesday night at Charles Field House.
The Wildcats and Pride battled in an exciting first set before C-SC pulled away to claim the set 25-22. The Wildcats carried that momentum into the final two sets where they easily dispatched the Pride 25-14 and 25-17 to take the match.
The victory gives the Wildcats a season sweep over Clarke and improves their record to 13-9 overall and 5-5 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference. Clarke drops to 11-14 overall and 2-9 in the league.
C-SC had five players with five or more kills in the match with Abby Godwin coming on strong in the third set to finish with a game-high nine terminations. Godwin committed just one attack error on 18 attempt for a .444 hitting percentage.
Ashleigh Brawley did some early damage with six kills in the opening set. Zoe Irvin added six kills in the match while Faith Hopgood and Victoria Pollard totaled five kills each.
The Wildcats used a strong serving game with 10 service aces in the three games. Lauren Bloom, who had a match-high 18 set assists, led the service parade with four aces. Pollard garnered three aces, while Sam Wright registered two service aces.
Defensively, Kyla Ellis led the back row with 13 digs and Pollard recorded nine digs. Brawley collected three block assists as the Wildcats totaled four team blocks in the match.
C-SC returns to the Charles Field House court this Friday, Oct. 18, to face Grand View University in a conference tilt. The Wildcats will seeing some revenge on the Vikings, who swept the Wildcats earlier this season in Des Moines, Iowa.
