Lady Koalas' Rally Falls Short at SAU
LAURINBURG, N.C. - The Columbia College women's basketball team's rally in the 4th quarter fell short as they dropped their road game at St. Andrews University (NC) Wednesday night 85-76.
St. Andrews got out to a fast start leading 23-11 after the opening period while a more competitive second quarter saw the teams combine for 40 points as SAU took a 45-29 halftime lead. Columbia posted 21 points in the third followed by 26 in the 4th as they outscored the Knights 47-40 in the second half, but it was not enough as St. Andrews held on for the win.
The Koalas shot nearly 40% overall and 42 percent from three making eight treys while also knocking down 22 of 30 free throws. However, SAU shot an impressive nearly 60 percent from the floor while also making 11 threes and controlled the boards on the night.
Columbia was led by a season-high 25 points from senior forward Tamyra Davis along with 4 rebounds and 2 steals while sophomore guard Tysonia Lowe added 13 points, 3 assists and 4 steals in the loss. Sophomore wing Jadein Haynes also scored 14 points off the bench with a team-best six steals while guard Kindan Dawson registered 10 points with 4 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals. Forward De'Asia Feaster also posted 7 points and 6 rebounds.
Columbia falls to 16-8 overall and 9-8 in the AAC while SAU improved to 10-14 and 6-11 in conference.
The Koalas will next head north to Tennessee to battle Johnson University on Saturday afternoon in their second-to-last conference road game.
