
Baseball Rallies and Rolls Past No. 12 Kansas Wesleyan
Baseball faced off against host Kansas Wesleyan to close out the first day of action in Salina. The Tigers fell behind early but exploded in the middle innings on their way to a 13-5 win over the 12th-ranked Coyotes.
KWU scored two runs in the 1st inning and three more in the 3rd inning to take a 5-0 lead. All five runs came courtesy of two home runs.
Doane broke through in the 4th inning with seven runs crossing the plate. An error allowed the first Tiger run to score and a fielder's choice plated another run. Aaron Vulcano then delivered an RBI-double to cut the deficit to two, 5-3. An additional error plated two more runs to tie the game and the Tigers took the lead on an RBI-double from Logan Amick. Justin Nevells capped the scoring with an RBI-single.
In the 5th inning, Doane added five more runs. Brayden Jones led off the inning with a home run. Vulcano continued the scoring with his second RBI-double of the game. A ground out by Gerald Nix put the Tigers up 10-5 and Logan Amick closed the scoring in the inning with a two-run home run. Doane's final run of the game came in the 7th inning on an RBI-double by Jordan Bond.
Isaiah Miller started for Doane on the mound and went 5.0 innings, allowing five runs on seven hits and three walks while striking out seven to pick up the win. Raidyn Steele threw the final 2.0 innings, allowing one hit and one walk.
Doane finished the game with 13 hits, three from Amick as he added two runs scored and three driven in. Nevells, Dane Kelsey, and Vulcano each posted two hits in the game. Jones and Vulcano scored two runs and drove in two apiece.
The Tigers return to action on Sunday morning, February 2, when they take on William Penn at 11 AM.
