
Pride suffer first home loss of 2025 to St. Ambrose
DUBUQUE, Iowa - Facing off against a conference rival at home on Wednesday night, the Clarke University men's lacrosse team dropped a 20-4 game to St. Ambrose University at Burrows Field.
Significant scoring runs for the Fighting Bees allowed the vistors to take a lead with the first three goals of the game then after CU would cut the lead to just one goal at 3-2 but SAU would score the final two goals of the first quarter to lead 5-2 followed by a 7-0 second quarter to make it a 9-0 run in total to give St. Ambrose a 12-2 lead at halftime.
A low scoring third quarter that kept the SAU advantage at 10 goals following Alex Beard's second goal of the game and Ayden Fraelle's first of five second half goals made it a 1-1 period before another seven-goal quarter would allow the Fighting Bees to really run away with the win.
St. Ambrose's goalie combination of Isaac Martinez and Alex Wirth combined for 12 saves on 16 shots again as Martinez got the start and played over 49 minutes to make 10 saves while Jack Fritz and Jake Weller split time in net for Clarke with each making four saves on the day.'
The Pride had success on faceoffs as a whole with both Josh Pote and Abraham Agundez winning 10 draws in the 27 total faceoffs in the game for CU to finish at a 74.1 percent win rate on the day.
Clarke men's lacrosse will play their second-straight home game of the week when they host their Senior Day game on Saturday, Apr. 5 as they'll be set to host Ottawa University with a 1:00 p.m. CT scheduled opening faceoff at Burrows Field.
