Mustangs win fourth straight GPAC contest

FREMONT, Neb. – For the fourth consecutive game in Great Plains Athletic Conference play, the Morningside University women's basketball team on Saturday defeated Midland 71-57.

The Mustangs (6-4, 4-2 GPAC) ended the game strong, outpacing the Warriors 24-11 during the fourth quarter. The road 'Stangs led 47-46 to begin the final 10 minutes of play, and extended their lead thanks to a 7-0 run over the first three minutes.

Lily Vollertsen scored 11 points total during the final stanza, and she made all five shots attempted. Morningside was 10-for-16 from the floor, and 3 of 6 from the free-throw line during the fourth quarter.

Overall, the Mustangs made 28 of 71 shots, including six 3-pointers.

Vollertsen led her squad with 18 points and nine rebounds. Alexis Spier chipped in with 11 points.

Kinsey Hall scored 10 points off the bench. She made four shots – including two 3s – during 16 minutes.

Jordyn Carr topped her team with nine assists, and also had three steals.
