MOUNT VERNON, Ohio - Alexis Huffman's goal with 28 seconds left to play snapped a scoreless tie and lifted host Mount Vernon Nazarene to a 1-0 win over the University of Rio Grande, Saturday night, in non-conference women's soccer action at CH4 Stadium.
Rio Grande dropped to 3-3 with the loss.
The Cougars evened their record at 2-2 with the dramatic victory.
MVNU ran its all-time record against Rio to 16-1, with the only loss coming by forfeit after the 2013 campaign when it was discovered that an ineligible player had been used in an on-field triumph over the RedStorm.
Huffman's game-winning marker came off of a lofting shot from the left wing which cleared the head of Rio senior keeper Alba Vilades Marin (Barcelona, Spain).
The Cougars finished with a 12-2 edge in overall shots and a 9-2 advantage in shots on frame. The hosts also had both of the game's corner kick tries.
Hannah Miller had two saves in goal for MVNU.
Vilades Marin stopped eight shots in the loss for the RedStorm.
Rio Grande is slated to return to action on Wednesday night with a non-conference road trip to Georgetown (Ky.) College.
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
