Williams Falls on the Road to Freed-Hardeman
HENDERSON, Tenn. (8/27/24) – The Williams Baptist University volleyball team fell on the road to Freed-Hardeman on Tuesday night by the final score of 25-16, 25-15, 25-15.
Tinleigh Ruhman took the team lead in kills with three on the night, Sophie Allred paced the squad in assists with six, and Jaycie Cook led with 10 digs in the match.
The Lady Eagles kept the first set close in the early going, with an Alonna Thomas service ace giving WBU a 13-8 lead over the Lions.
FHU responded with a 7-0 run to take a 15-13 lead, and an 8-1 run later in the set to take the first set by the final score of 25-16.
The second set was much like the first, with a 9-2 FHU run breaking an 8-8 tie to power the Lions to a 25-15 set win to go up 2-0.
An early 6-1 Freed-Hardeman run put the Eagles down quickly in the third set. FHU went on to win the set 25-15, and took the match 3-0.
The loss drops the Lady Eagles to 1-7 on the season. WBU will play again on Friday, Sept. 6 against Bethel (Tenn.) during the first day of the Lyon College Classic in Batesville, Ark. The game is scheduled for a 4 p.m. start time.
