Alice Lloyd Lady Eagles Basketball falls to Spring Arbor, Michigan

 Winona Lake, IN: On Friday, November 8th, the Alice Lloyd College Lady Eagles ventured to the Hoosier state to face a solid Spring Arbor University (MI) Cougar squad in the Grace College Val Weinstein Classic . The Michigan club combined the play of center Alana Nelson with a mammoth second quarter, to take the 97-73 victory.

In the opening period, the battle was intense as Nelson pumped in 11 big points. However, the Lady Eagles used 8 points from freshman guard Bailey Stewart and a pair of bombs from sophomore guard Abby Maggard to keep pace. After ten well-played minutes, the game was tied 26-26 at the buzzer.

In the second quarter, the Cougars utilized intense pressure to raise the heat. SAU would force 11 big turnovers and use that to roll off a mammoth 29-7 blitz. By intermission, the Michigan crew would lead 55-33.

In the third period, the Pippa Passes team would see seven players combine for 19 points. However,  the Cougars put up a nice 27-spot. This would send them into the final stanza holding a commanding 82- 52 lead.

In the final period, ALC sophomore guard Kennedy Harville knocked down 7 points as her team would take the quarter, 21-15. Unfortunately, the deficit was just too much to overcome as Spring Arbor would take the victory.

For Alice Lloyd (2-3), sophomore forward Jamie Cowan would pace the club with 16 points and a game-high 7 rebounds. She was followed by Maggard with 13 points. In addition Harville and Stewart both hit double-digits with 12 and 11 points apiece. In addition, senior guard Katie Jo Moore had 6 assists, while Maggard and Stewart both had 2 steals.

The Caney Club finished shooting 43.6% (24-55) from the field and 33% (5-15) from long range. They connected on 76.9% (20-26) from the foul line while adding 32 rebounds, 11 assists and 8 steals.

Nelson paced SAU (4-0) with 28 points and 11 boards. Her squad finished shooting 51.7% (31-60) from the field, 50% (8-16) from behind the arc, and 77.1% (27-35) from the charity stripe. They also added 39 rebounds, 22 assists, 2 blocks and 14 steals.
