ASHEVILLE, NC - The Columbia College women's basketball team dropped their second straight game to begin the new year falling 87-52 on the road at Montreat College on Tuesday evening. The game was played at UNC-Asheville's arena.
After a competitive first quarter that saw the two foes combine for 44 points, the scoring and shooting then fell off quickly for the Koalas as they could only manage 32 points over the final 30 minutes. MC led 24-20 after the first and then went up 45-35 at the break. Columbia, however, scored just 17 points in the second half and could not get closer than 10 points the rest of the way.
CC shot 25.5% overall and just 9 percent from three-point range while Montreat shot 40 percent led by a game-high of 36 points from their guard Virginia Edmondson. Columbia grabbed 8 steals off 22 Cavalier turnovers.
Columbia had two finish in double-figure scoring led by 13 points off the bench from junior guard Makayla Street and 12 points from fellow guard Tysonia Lowe. Street and Lowe each pulled down 6 rebounds apiece while Lowe added 2 assists and a steal. Forward De'Asia Feaster also recorded 5 points and 6 rebounds with 2 steals and a block while guard Layla Wall scored 7 points with 3 steals and 3 rebounds.
The Koalas fall to 13-3 overall and 6-3 in the AAC while Montreat improved to 10-4 overall and 7-2 in conference.
Columbia will next go back on the road to face Bryan College on Saturday in Tennessee for a 2:00 PM tip.
