Union baseball drops doubleheader against Bryan

Barbourville, Ky. - The Union Commonwealth University baseball team hosted a conference doubleheader against Bryan on Friday. The Bulldogs fell in game one, 11-0, before battling to a close 5-4 loss in game two. 


Game One

In the opener, Cooper Tomkinson and Brysen Vernon each recorded a hit, both going 1-for-3 at the plate. Logan Romasanta got the start on the mound, striking out six over seven innings. Gunner Bleha, Tanner Hayes, and Braylon Greene also saw action in relief, with Bleha recording one strikeout and Green adding two. 

Game Two

Jayden Gonzalez led the way in game two, going 2-for-3, while Ernesto Moreno was a perfect 1-for-1. Romasanta and Nick Seelman each added a hit. 

The Bulldogs' scoring came from Gonzalez, Aaron Barrera, Brendan Hillis, and Max Charlton, who all crossed the plate once. Seelman drove in two runs and hit a double, while Gonzalez added an RBI and recorded a homerun.

Bulldogs' starter Evan Hiatt struck out three batters over 3.2 innings, allowing just one walk. Jackson Clark took over in relief where he threw 3.1 innings without surrendering a walk and adding two strikeouts.

The Bulldogs are now 8-12 (1-6 AAC) this season, while Bryan is 9-11 (5-5 AAC). UCU closes out the series with Bryan with the final game set for Saturday, March 8, at 1:00 p.m.
