Connor Supplies 1500th assist in #9 Jamestown Match

LA CROSSE, Wis. – The Viterbo University Women's Volleyball fell to #9 Jamestown University  in a nail biting 5 sets (25-23, 25-22, 19-25, 24-26, 12-15) on Friday evening to open the V-Hawk Fall Invitational. The V-Hawks fall to 6-7 (CCAC 1-0) while the Jimmies rise 6-0.

Sadie Treptow would open the match for the V-Hawks with the first kill assisted by Maddie Connor who gave her 1500th career assist in the match. The V-Hawks would take the lead early in the set and remain in the lead. A kill from Martina McGrath would end the first set putting the V-Hawks up 1-0.

Set two a power struggle would take place between the V-Hawks and the Jimmies, with point swapping until two Jada Mitchell kills would put the V-Hawks further in the lead. Hailee Halverson and Mitchell would supply the V-Hawks with the final kills of the set putting the V-Hawks up 2-0 on the ranked team.

The Jimmies would take the lead early in the third set though Grace Peyron would set the fire for a six point run off a Grace Check service assisted by a two Mitchell, Peyron blocks. JU would find the sweet spot and over again take over the lead and take set three.

McGrath and Treptow set the V-Hawks in motion with a block followed by a Mitchell (Connor) kill. A volley of points served between the V-Hawks and Jimmies would take place until VU would go on a three point run with kills by Izzy Jahr and Treptow. Once again Jahr would attack with a kill tying up the set 24-24 though the Jimmies would take over ending set four 26-24.

The V-Hawks would start from behind in the fifth set, McGrath coming from behind struck with a solo block and a solo kill during a five point run. Halverson would work hard with two more kills though it would not be enough for the V-Hawks.

Mitchell would lead the V-Hawks in kills with 16, while Cailie Kowal would have 25 assists and Connor with 23. Kenidi McCabe supplied the V-Hawks with 26 digs. Aleah Zieske led the Jimmies with 34 kills, while Tenley Buddenhagen would have 34 assists.

The V-Hawks return to action Saturday September 7th as they take on Dakota State and Valley City State in day two of the V-Hawk Fall Invitational.
