
Wood Posts 21 Kills to Lead Volleyball in Home Opener
Volleyball played their home opener on Wednesday evening as they hosted College of Saint Mary. The Flames are receiving votes in the latest NAIA poll. The Tigers put forth a valiant effort but came up short in a four-set loss. Game scores were 25-23, 28-26, 22-25, and 25-10 in the Flames favor.
Both teams were firing on offense through the first three sets. Doane posted 53 kills with nine errors and a .297 attack percentage while Saint Mary had 51 kills with 11 errors and a .282 attack percentage. In the fourth set, the Flames stayed hot by hitting .318 while Doane struggled to a -0.091 attack percentage.
For the match, Natalie Wood led all attackers with 21 kills. Kayden Schumacher added 11 kills and Taylor Sluka finished with 10 kills. Camdyn Carpenter dished out 49 assists in the match.
Defensively, Carpenter led the team with 22 digs while Grace Zeier posted 17 digs. Mackenzie Painter added 11 digs. Doane finished with 3.0 team blocks. Taylor Sluka and Hilary Hupp were in on two apiece.
The Tigers have a short turnaround as they hit the road on Thursday to play in Leavenworth, Kansas, against University of St. Mary. First serve is set for 7 PM.
