No. 13 LSUS Pilots Edge Out No. 23 Nelson University, 83-80

Shreveport, LA — The No. 13-ranked Louisiana State University Shreveport Pilots improved to 2-1 on the season with a thrilling 83-80 victory over No. 23-ranked Nelson University (formerly Southwestern Assemblies of God University) on Tuesday night. In a closely contested battle, the Pilots pulled through in the final moments to secure the win.

The Pilots were led by a standout performance from Taj Anderson, who posted 17 points, seven rebounds, two steals, and one assist, helping LSUS maintain its undefeated streak. Anderson's all-around contribution set the tone for the Pilots, with strong support from Tahjae Hill, who added 15 points and two assists. Davion Coleman also stepped up with 14 points, two rebounds, two steals, and an assist, while Tyler Washington chipped in 13 points and four rebounds.

LSUS displayed impressive shooting, finishing the game at 49.2% from the field and 46.2% from beyond the arc. Despite some struggles at the free-throw line (52%), the Pilots' consistency in other areas proved crucial to holding off the Lions.

Nelson University kept the game close throughout, led by CJ Hall, who poured in a game-high 26 points along with five rebounds and three assists. Latrel Davis delivered a double-double performance, tallying 19 points and 11 rebounds, while JJ Boling and Preston Lawrence contributed 17 and 12 points, respectively. The Lions shot 44.6% from the field, 37.9% from three-point range, and 64.7% from the free-throw line, making it a challenging battle for the Pilots until the final buzzer.

LSUS returns to action on Friday, Nov. 8, at The Dock for the Champions of Character Game, set to tip off at 11 a.m. against the University of Science and Arts. This special game highlights the NAIA's core values of respect, responsibility, integrity, sportsmanship, and servant leadership.
