TOCCOA FALLS, Ga. - On the team's first day of their southern spring break travel, the Defiance Yellow Jackets suffered a 12-3 loss to the Mid-Atlantic Christian Mustangs and a 10-7 defeat to the Toccoa Falls Eagles on Friday.
In the first game against Mid-Atlantic Christian, the Mustangs posted their 12 runs in a pair of big innings while the Yellow Jackets scattered single runs across three innings. After Alex Rodriguez III plated a two-out single for DC in the second, MAC answered with a three-run homer and a pair of two-run doubles before Defiance recorded the first out of the inning. Tyler Dehan got a run back in the fifth with a solo homer but a five-run fifth by the Mustangs were fueled by three singles, two sac flies and an error.
Against Toccoa Falls in Game 2, Defiance fell behind 10-2 through three innings. The Yellow Jacekts got three runs back in the fourth with RBIs from Tim Bobek, Brady Fallon and Mitchell Roever. DC grabbed single runs in the fifth and sixth to tighten the contest to 10-7. In the top of the seventh, the Jackets were able to bring the tying run to the plate but the Eagles shut the door with a strikeout to strand runners on the corners.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Defiance's 14 hits in the second game were a season-high.
- Connor Gephart extended his hitting streak to seven games after a 3-for-6 day at the plate.
- Gunner Gregg, Anthony Silvera Jr. and Tyler Dehan all posted hits in each game. Dehan away with a home run and a double in the twinbill.
- Brady Fallon had a breakout performance in the second game when he went 3-for-3 with 3 RBIs. He brought home one run in all three of his hits in the contest.
- Senior shortstop Alex Rodriguez III also delivered RBI knocks in each ballgame, finishing 3-for-6.
- The pitching staff endured its sixth and seventh games of the season in which they allowed 10 runs or more.
- Three relievers produced scoreless outings for Defiance led by senior Aerion Gipson with three shutout frames against Toccoa Falls. Gabriel Kelly in Game 1 and Evan Bowers in Game 2 each twirled one scoreless inning apiece.
